The Nameless Recipe

I was tasked with making dessert for my father in-law’s birthday. I was instructed that his favorite dessert is angel food cake with fruit; but I wasn’t necessarily going to follow that. I thought this a great opportunity to pick a recipe for this blog. I thumbed through my huge stack of dessert recipes and pulled out this one.

Flipping it front to back I realized that it had no title. Perfect! What a great recipe to begin the blog. After reading the ingredients I also realized that it included angel food cake and strawberries; double the perfection. So here we go…

Here are the ingredients needed. (I will include the recipe at the end of the post)

This is what your gelatin will look like after it has been standing in the water for 5 minutes.

Chop up your angel food cake into 1 inch squares.

You will heat your gelatin until it dissolves and then add sugar.

You will add your thawed undrained strawberries to your gelatin and then chill until the gelatin patially sets up.
Watch this carefully, you do not want firm jello just a thicker mixture. Mine looked like this after taking it out of the fridge.

Then adding your whipped topping should create this consistency.

We were expecting 9 people and the recipe states using a 8x8 pan so I doubled the recipe. Below you can clearly see that the recipe should state a 9x13 pan and that doubling it was overkill on my part.

After mixing in the whipped topping strawberry mixture the angel food cake should be covered but not mushy or soggy.

Poor your mixture into the pan and spread out evenly. Then chill until ready to serve.

Add your fresh sliced strawberries to the top and presto a yummy angel food cake dessert.
At the party every one mentioned how much they really enoyed the dessert. It was a big hit; and since it was so easy to make I would reccomend it to anyone.

(No Name Angel Food Cake Recipe)

1 envelope unflavored gelatin

¾ C cold water
½ C sugar
1 package (10 oz) frozen sliced strawberries (thawed)

1 carton (8 oz) frozen whipped topping (thawed)

5 C angel food cake (cubed)

Fresh Strawberries and Mint (optional)
Directions:
In a saucepan, combine gelatin and cold water; let stand 5 minutes to soften. Stir over low heat just until gelatin dissolves. Remove from the heat; add sugar. Stir in un-drained strawberries. Chill until partially thickened. Fold in whipped topping. Place cake cubes in a mixing bowl; pour strawberry mixture over cake cubes and mix gently. Pour into a 9x13* ungreased baking dish. Chill until firm or ready to serve. Garnish with strawberries and mint if desired.
